Based on the exhibition of the same name at the Saatchi Gallery the book includes over 80 paintings, sculptures and installations representing a vibrant art scene that challenges people’s assumptions about the Middle East. The works touch on sensitive topics, depicting the horror of conflicts past and present, exploring suppressed sexuality and examining a woman’s place in the Muslim world. The 19 artists are from Iran, Iraq, Syria and beyond. Some still live in their native countries while others have emigrated to the West.
