Gideon Ofrat

Gideon Ofrat (Ph.d, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, 1974) taught modern drama (The Hebrew University, 1971-1980) and philosophy of art (Bezalel Academy of Art, 1972-1995, with intervals) and has been a guest-lecturer on Israeli art at various institutions in Israel, U.S.A and Canada. Ofrat has been a curator of many historical and contemporary exhibitions of Israeli art in Israel and abroad (among them the curator of the Israeli pavilion at Venice Biennale, 1993 and 1995) and published scores of books and hundreds of essays and catalogues. Recently, he was the curator (together with Galia Bar-Or) of the exhibition "The First Decade: Hegemony and Pluralism" at Ein Harod museum; and edited (together with David Tartakower) the three volumes of "Bezalel – 100 Years". Among his books: "The Jewish Derrida", Syracuse University Press, N.Y., 1998; and "100 Years of Art in Israel", Westview Press, Denver, Col., 1998.
