Polina Shtemler is a PhD student at the Department of Arts at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. The title of her dissertation is: "Illness, Submission and Martyrdom: Images of Love Suffering in Late Medieval Art". In this work she investigates different aspects of gender, sexuality, love and suffering as they are embodied in art and culture of the late Middle Ages. Between the years 2007-2011 Mrs. ShtemIer was a fellow at the Kreitman Foundation for an outstanding academic record. Since 2007 she teaches in the Department of the Arts at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
